Hitting the Clubs of Taiwan

So, the day is Saturday and I am waking up at 6:00p.m. I guess you can say that I am still a prisoner of jetlag, and it doesn't look like I am going to escape from it anytime soon. Anyways, I hear a knock at my door and my roomies invite me out to eat with them and a couple of friends that they know in Taiwan. I agree and head over to meet the others at the 101 (this is supposedly the tallest building in the world according to the locals). At this building there are several shops and a huge mall that has like every store you can imagine inside. Surprisingly, this did not exclude having a 711, which in my opinion did not really fit with the whole theme they were going for.

After walking around and sightseeing for a while, we decided to find a western restaurant to help us feel more at home. Sure enough we found a Macaroni Grill, and boy was it nice. It was identical to the restaurants that we have at home, but in fact I thought it was a little nicer. We were greeted by a small pettit Asian woman who was belting out this beautiful opera music. She was so good that it sounded like a recording, and I have to say that if I didn't see her with my own eyes I would not have believed that she was singing.

Once we were finished eating, the rest of the group decided to head back home except for Jason (my roomie from Texas). I guess everyone except for him and I had too much adventure for the day. This did not stop us, for it just so happened that on our way home we stumbled upon this club called The Plush. Now granted the admission to get in was $700.00NT (which converts to about $20.00U.S.), the club was fun even though the price was a little steep. We were given a card at the door that entitled us to a free drink, and we made sure to take advantage of that ordering the most expensive drinks at the bar.

When we walked in, I had to take a moment to remind myself that I was not in the states anymore because everything about the club said, "America". The music was all from the radio stations back at home, and the design reminded me of the clubs that I went to in Vegas. They were playing everything from Usher, to Snoop Dog, and the club was PACKED. The dj was this black guy with dreadlocks (that now sets the number of black people that I have seen in Taiwan at 4) that sounded like he was from the U.S., and he was really good. You would have thought that my friend and I were celebrities or something, because sooooooo many people approached us to say, "Hi", or better yet, "What's Up?". More people approached me than my friend (I guess they thought I was cooler or more "Hip" ;-). Anyways, I found myself dancing on the stage with this Asian guy that was pretty good. Everyone cheered me on as I danced and after staying a good time in the spotlight, I decided to let the other guy shine (didn't want to be an attention hog). This guy named Jeremy thought I was like the coolest, so he gave me his business card and told me to call him anytime because he wanted to hang out with guys from the states. Told me that he had a girlfriend in Cali, and that he just loved people from the states.

Around 4:00a.m. (close to the club's closing time) my roomie and I decided to head back home. Of course we couldn't walk back without people approaching us wanting to talk to us. This one guy dressed like an urban hipster approached me and asked me what my name was. I told him my name, and he looked really surprised like he didn't believe me or something. He told me his name was Dj Coolie Cool, and my friend and I couldn't help but to smile at that. Well that about does it for me, I have about two minutes left on this net cafe computer so I am going to wrap it up.
